For years, the homeowners’ three teenage boys dominated the family’s basement. Complete with three bedrooms, one full bath, mini kitchen, lounge area with a large TV, pool table, foosball table and direct access to the garage and driveway, the boys pretty much lived in this space, as did all their neighborhood friends. After the third and final son left for college, mom and dad decided to reclaim the space and create a more adult version of their sons’ hangout spot.
While the basement’s footprint remained the same, the entire space was completely gutted and taken down to the studs. All new engineered flooring was installed, the dated wood paneling was replaced by fresh paint on all the walls, along with an accent wall of a mixed wood bundle in the billiard room. The layout of the mini kitchen was slightly changed to open it up to the main living / lounging space and all appliances (including wine fridge, microwave and dishwasher) were upgraded.
The end result is a beautiful basement that is light, bright and fresh. It is the perfect space for these homeowners to welcome and entertain family and friends. We’re sure the boys are able to enjoy it too on weekend visits and holidays!
