After living in the same house for almost two decades, the owners of this traditional two-story home decided to enlarge its kitchen as part of a major renovation. Since the owners enjoy cooking and entertaining, it was imperative to provide both good flow and ample socializing space. A new 8’-0” island was placed in the center of the space, creating a breakfast area at one end and a sitting area at the other. Warm white painted cabinets, that complement the new stainless steel appliances and backsplash of textured blue glass tile, create an understated contemporary look that does not deter from the more traditional feeling of the remaining house. The island was painted in the same deep night blue as the backsplash, standing as a detached piece of furniture, while the modern light fixture and contemporary new furniture complete the eclectic and comfortable look pursued by the client. The crown molding between cabinets and the smooth ceiling finalize the transition between the new and the old.
